How To Prepare Your Quilt

  • 1. Pressing

Pressing your quilt top well is one of the most important steps in preparing it for the long arm quilting machine. If your seams are not pressed, risks of machine interruptions or even failures can occur. You may press your seams to the side or open if you prefer. Just ensure to get those seam allowances FLAT!

**If pressing is required, there is an additional charge starting at $25**

  • 2. Trim

Trim all threads and ensure your quilt top is as square as possible. We understand that some fraying happens, but excessive amounts of thread can interfere with a good result.

**If an excessive amount of trimming is required, there is an additional charge starting at $10**

  • 3. Backing

Make sure your backing is ready to go for the long arm. Your backing should measure 8” longer than your quilt top in all directions. This ensures your top will fit onto the backing, even if your quilt is not exactly square. Any seams on the quilt backing must also be pressed flat.

**Backing provided that is LESS than 8” longer in all directions may not be accepted**

  • 4. Batting

You may purchase batting from me (options & pricing available upon request), or you may provide your own. If you provide your own, please ensure that the batting measures at least 8” longer than your quilt top in all directions. This ensures that there will be enough for your quilt, even if it is not exactly a square.

**Batting provided that is LESS than 8” longer in all directions may not be accepted**

  • 5. Thread
