How It All Got Stitched Together…
Located in Stow, OH and operating as a home business, Me and Her Quilting LLC officially opened for business in January 2024. However, it had been an unrealized dream for far longer.
I, Madeline (pictured right), have always had a head & heart that desires to learn as well as hands that long to create. My grandmother, Suzi (pictured left), has always shared not only these attributes, but also a desire and will to teach. From as young as I can remember, she has taught me that *learning* and *doing* can be, and are in fact, FUN! This was most frequently displayed through our sewing lessons - making quilts and doll clothes as early as she could teach me.
In the early 2000's, my grandmother opened and operated her own long-arm quilting business, Quilted Treasures, just as long-arm machines were gaining traction in the market. I remember being able to witness and learn various parts of the way she worked. Even still as a child, she was allowing me to dabble in learning long-arm quilting alongside her - I even completed a project or two!
Eventually, life happened & my time to dedicate to the art became less and less. I attended college. I studied at & received my BA in Business Administrations from the University of Akron, and soon afterwards, started down a career path in supply chain.
Years were spent learning various office-environment roles at multiple companies until eventually I had to give in to my undeniable truth: None of this was what I wanted. My head and heart were sinking in. My hands were bored, and I wanted to create.
In 2021, not knowing exactly what the plan would be, I quit my final supply chain job and dove head-first back into sewing and quilting lessons with my grandmother. It wasn't long before I realized the endless *learning* and *doing* involved in textile arts was exactly what I wanted. Every block, every quilt, continuously felt stitched together with love and attention - and I was hooked!
Then, after 3 years of lessons and practice, Me and Her Quilting became an idea turned quickly into reality. The "Me" being, well, me, and the "Her" being the one I've learned everything from: my grandmother, Suzi. (also, a pun on the "meandering" quilting technique - get it?!).
Thanks for everything, Grandma. I couldn't have realized or moved on this dream without you.
Looking forward to where this journey takes me & all of the quilts I get to meet.
